1% For The Planet

“We had been having a discussion about our realisation that besides the fact that our respective companies were dependant on the existence of wild places in the world, we shared the personal belief that a healthy natural world is essential for humankind’s survival.

“In 2001, Craig Matthews and I decided to start an organisation called 1% for the Planet, an alliance of businesses pledging to donate at least 1 percent if sales toward active efforts to protect and restore natural environment”

“Joining 1% for the Planet identifies a company as one that understands that the environment is the foundation for all life on Earth, including human civilisations, and that a healthy environment is necessary for all forms of life to have a future.”

“1% for the planet is a self-imposed tax for using resources, it’s also an insurance policy that we’ll still be in business in the future.”

For me the solutions to the world’s problems is easy: we have to take action, and if we can’t do it ourselves, we’ve got to dig into our pockets. The scariest moment is writing that first check. But you know what? The next day things go on: the phone still rings, there’s food on the table, and the world is a little better.”

Talk about how by joining this every little bit helps, another business might find inspiration after hearing it exists and they join, then another joins, then another joins and it all adds up.

“When we all work together 1% adds up”

They:
Plant, collect, purify, protect, conserve, regenerate, educate TAKE ACTION

1% connects those who want to take action with those who do it best.
“To protect our only home”
“So that collectively they can be a more powerful force in solving the world’s problems”

Here at Goodlids, we believe that ‘A healthy natural world is essential for humankind’s survival’ (ref) Humankind’s survival is worth more than mere living, it’s worth exploring and to enjoy.

To protect our only home we took in upon ourselves to join a self-imposed tax called 1% for the Planet, orchestrated by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. Joining 1% for the Planet allows you and us to; collect, plant, purify, conserve, regenerate, protect and educate. This alliance is revolutionary for the state of our environment! When we all work together, 1% adds up, and by agreeing to this we may inspire others to also.

One afternoon during fall, 1999 Yvon and his mate Craig Matthews (owner of Blue Ribbon Flies) set out to go fly fishing. They bonded over their passion for the Earth and how everything is dependant on it, including their passions and businesses.

In 2001 they decided if we are taking from the world, then we should give back! Environment friendly non-profit organisations are now

As a collective we can continue to provide food for our tables, homes for our people and a future for our generations. 1% for the Planet connects whoever wants to take action with those who can do it best. The Annual Gross sales of Goodlids now goes towards

What does Goodlids stand for? To ‘Do good and have fun’. Actions speak louder than words, discussion is great for ideating but to undertake a commitment holds more. We will do good in this world so that we can all have more fun.

We are super stoked to have another good deed under our belt at Goodlids. Know that you are helping the planet too! We all share this place so we should make it enjoyable as we possibly can
